Got Beads?

Orange's Mardi Gras Parade took to the streets Saturday. They roads were lined with people waiting to catch beads. Little children brought plastic bags to put their bounty in.

Krewes decorated their floats in the same themes as at the Grande Ball.

The parade grew in considerable size this year with not only the krewes, police and fire departments, but several of the current candidates including Joel Ardoin and David Peck.

With green and gold as the school colors, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin' Bears Band only had to add a little purple to finish off the Mardi Gras color scheme.

The Orange County Roller Girls, part of an area effort to bring flat rink roller derby to the public participated.

Kevin Doss used signs, effectively, to generate the throwing of more beads his way. KOGT's Gary Stelly tossed many beads to Doss when displaying the sign, "Throw beads if you are  not wearing panties!"

The ruse brought so many beads to the door of the Orange Community Players' theater that Jeff Hattman started distributing necklaces to cars passing by after the parade.

After the success of the 2010 Mardi Gras Parade, it's too bad it only happens once a year.

Orange Parade
I was not going to go, but was forced to by daughter and grand kids and wife. Glad I did . I was very surprised by the turn out and the amount of floats. I got a sack full of beads for the kids and the older one got a sack full to. We enjoyed it and I am really glad it was so good.Again I am glad I was made to go.
