The front page from the first edition of the Opportunity Valley News, dated exactly 50 years ago -- March 17, 1971 -- was topped by a photograph of Bridge City and University of Texas All-American football star Steve Worster and OVN Sports Editor Pete Runnels admiring a painting commemorating Worster's leading the Longhorns to two national championships. Runnels left to become Orange County Judge and later Mayor of Pinehurst.
