It was a room full of feathers, lace, glitz and glamour as the Rhinestone Red Hatters Queen’s Council’s “Third Annual Extravaganza and Dinner” unfolded at the MCM Elegante’ Hotel, Friday, April 18.

Red Hatter’s came from all directions to converge in Beaumont dressed in their finest regalia of red and purple, pink and lavender.

They came from as far as Channelview, Houston, Wildwood and Welsh, La.

The hall outside of the ballroom had been transformed into a Red Hatter’s market place where you could be outfitted from head to toe no matter what your style.

Rhinestone cowboy hats, sequined caps, large flamboyant hats full of feathers and fine fabrics could be found.

Once you find the perfect outfit to go with your new hat, it’s time to accessorize.

There was every type of sparkle imaginable, even hip scarves that jingled when you walked.

When the 236 Society members entered the ball room, all the tables were set with goody bags, German chocolate cake and strawberry cheesecake, because life is short and you should eat dessert first.

Council Queen Lyska Shaffer welcomed everyone, Lady Edra Fusselman gave the invocation, and lead the ladies in “Happy Birthday Red Hat Society” celebrating its 10th year of existence “Bring Back My Mother,” was sung to the tune of “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean,” with everyone joining in on the chorus.

The royal feast was topped off with door prize and raffle drawings.

Princess of the Cybernet Jerry Lynn Hall presented the “ducky” and “poo-pouri” awards.

Shaffer presented Mildred Bellard, Velma Clark, Hall, and Anetia Merrell each with a beautiful long stemmed red rose as thanks for their efforts in planning the event.

Vidor playwright, Joyce Aldrich emceed the Red Hat Mystery Theater presentation of “The Baroness’ Tea”.

A murderous tale of jealousy, hatred, love, envy and a suspected “love triangle” that takes place at a Red Hat Tea Party.

Who killed Francine Featherly (Lois LaCaze)? Was Roxie Reed (Bellard) stepping out with Baroness Bovine Grande Rouge’s (Fusselman) husband? Everything was answered, but not before the Medical Examiner (Merrell) stole the show with her “Harpo Marxist” portrayal of a coroner.

No words needed.

Everyone was howling in their seats.

The show finished on a musical note with Roxie Reed shimmying and shaking along the stage.

It was a good end to a fun day.
