Southeast Texans who are seeking to begin or complete a bachelor’s degree are invited to attend the Adult Students Open House May 19.

The open house will be held 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

in the Montagne Center Cardinal Club Room.

Information about enrollment, course availability and academic advisement will be presented.

“Adult students often have very unique needs, and their expectations are often very different than those of younger students,” said Jim Rush, director of academic services.

“Sometimes adult learners are surprised to find out they are not really that far away from earning a degree.

They need to let us look at their academic records to see what they need to get it completed.” Many adult learners never complete their degrees due to family or job circumstances and only return to school because of changing career goals or job requirements.

Adult studies academic advisors will be on hand to review academic information to determine how many courses students need to graduate.

Online programs will be discussed during the open house, such as the bachelor of general studies and bachelor of applied arts and sciences degree programs, which are now available completely online.

University representatives from financial aid, testing services, and academic advising will present information to assist students in registering.

For more information about the Adult Students Open House or information about online classes and adult education in general, contact Lisa Cowart, adult studies coordinator at (409) 880-7989 or via email at [email protected].
