Flood-damaged homes built after 1983 are above 8-foot elevation and in city compliance with “A Zone” housing, which designates flood damage, and can be repaired immediately, city officials said at Monday’s 3 p.m.

city council meeting.

For other homes, repair eligibility will need to be determined by local officials, City Manager Jerry Jones said.

If a home receives a “substantial damage” listing, it means the cost exceeds 50 percent of the market value of the structure to be repaired or improved.

“We want people to get their homes repaired quickly,” Jones said.

To determine eligibility, he said, residents could call city hall at 735-6801.

A number of Federal Emergency Management Agency trailers have started to filter into the city, Mayor Kirk Roccaforte said.

Their called “Park Models,” he said.

“They don’t have ‘travel trailers anymore,’” he said.

“I can’t tell you how many will get here,” he said.

“Some will be in parks, some [will be] where damaged homes are and some not far from damaged locations so that people won’t have far to go,” he said.

Earlier Monday, a FEMA official said trailers can be applied for through a FEMA building inspection at http://www.fema.gov ; or by going to the FEMA tent at the Orange County Courthouse.
