Man in murder warrant surrenders to Sheriff's office

According to Det. Chad Hogan of the Orange County Sheriff's Dept., Jeffery Cole has turned himself in after a warrant for his arrest was issued yesterday. He is currently in the Orange County Jail on a $50,000 bond for the murder of Joseph Bertrand in November 2008.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 from 1540 Buckhorn Street in Vidor concerning an unresponsive male. Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies found the homeowner, 58 year old Joseph Bertrand, deceased inside the residence.

According to Hogan, the Criminal Investigations Division, after completing the investigation, prepared and submitted the case to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office on Jan. 8 for review and disposition.

Wednesday the Orange County grand jury returned a murder indictment

against 30 year old Cole after hearing the case in the death of the

Vidor man.
