Nice and blue carnage

Last updated 7/22/2009 at Noon

I was thinking today about Kris Olsen.

She was the court reporter at the Rodney King trial.

I moved to California, to seek my fame and fortune.

I basically wound up drinking beer at the beach.

And I was very good at it.

I was thinking today about Kris Olsen.

She looked like a California girl.

Blond with glasses. Very cute. Some admirer even brought some flowers and gave it to one of the reporters to give to her.

They played that beating tape over and over, until I never wanted to see it again.

It was in black and white. Fox 11.

When there was a lull in the courtroom, the station ran “Gilligan’s Island.”

And when the officers were found not guilty, my roommate Travis said, “There’s gonna be riots. “There’s gonna be riots.”

He went off to a music class, and I watched the Skipper and the Howells.

I was thinking today about Kris Olsen.

I can’t remember how long it was, but at some point I saw Reginald Denny being dragged from his truck. Got his head bashed in pretty bad.

I stepped outside and looked at the sky. It was all nice and blue.

There was no indication that 40 miles away, carnage was taking place.

It was a beautiful day.

I wish I could have understood it all.

In the end, I never did.
