This month, Jessica Brown of Pinehurst is taking part in Texas Lutheran University’s Lone Star Scholars Academy 2009 (LSSA), a unique program that introduces academically gifted high school students to college life.

Brown is one of nearly 50 students from as far away as Florida taking part in LSSA. Each student takes two courses taught by select TLU faculty and other educators, earning two hours of college credit.

Students live on the Seguin campus in residence halls and participate in community service activities and social events.

LSSA is held each summer, and this year’s program continues through Aug. 1.

Founded in 1891, Texas Lutheran is an exclusively undergraduate university of the liberal arts, sciences and professional studies located in Seguin.
