Houston Cecil E. Rush Jr., 86, of Houston, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, in Houston. Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Friday, Aug 21, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange.  Officiating will be the Rev. Barry Bradley of First Baptist Church in Orange. Cremation will be under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home and Claybar Haven of Rest Crematory. Entombment of Mr. Rush’s cremated remains will be held at a later date at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City. Family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Cecil was born on May 12, 1923, in Henryetta, Okla. He was the son of Cecil Elsworth Rush Sr. and Elizabeth (Fox) Rush. He was a retired Painter Superintendent of Gene Nelson Special Coating Company for 20 years. Cecil also served 16 years in the U.S. Navy. Having served during World War II and the Korean War. He was an avid football fan, his favorite teams were the University of Oklahoma Sooners and West Orange-Stark Mustangs. But most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Rush was an avid “fitness walker”. He walked everyday to stay active and fit.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Elizabeth Rush in 1990.

Cecil is survived by his daughter, Peggy Hoosier and her husband Danny of Houston; son, Terry Rush and wife Mary of Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren, Kelli Kilchrist, Gabriel Rush, Micala Gingrich-Gaylord and Mark Kilchrist; three great-grandchildren, Karli Porterfield, Basil Gingrich-Gaylord and Brileigh Kilchrist; sisters, Margaret Crain of Tulsa, Okla., Ina Stringer of Sillwater, Okla. and Wanda Rush of Henryetta, Okla.; and brother, Bill Rush of Sapulpa, Okla..
