OCARC fishing tourney

The 23rd Orange County Association of Retarded Citizens’ Fishing Tournament will be Friday and Saturday, Aug. 6-7. Salt water fisherman can fish anywhere; freshwater must be within a 40-mile radius of Orange. Entry fee is $25. Thirty-one winners will be awarded in 11 categories. Winners receive cash and trophies. Big speck, bass, flounder and redfish garner $250 each, while second brings $100 and third pays $50. White perch, catfish, croaker, grinnel, rough fish and gar pays $100 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third. A $50 prize goes to the largest “Don Hubbard” mudcat. No 28-inch red fish are allowed. Redfish must be between 20-27 inches.

Tournament runs from 5 p.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Saturday. Weigh-in starts at 6 p.m. Saturday at the OCARC offices, 905 W. Park Ave.

BC kindergarten registration

The Bridge City Independent School District Kindergarten Registration for the 2010-11 year is underway at Hatton Elementary.


• All kindergarten students must register at Hatton.

• Students must be 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2010.

• A state certified birth certificate, complete immunization record, proof of residency in the Bridge City School District, the students social security card and the parents or guardians photo ID are required.

Only complete packets will be accepted.

School personnel are asking anyone knowing parents of prospective kindergarten children to inform them of the registration. The office at Hatton Elementary School will be registering students from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. each day. For more information call Hatton at (409) 735-1600.


Note: Texas State Compulsory Attendance Law mandates student attendance in school once enrolled in Pre-K or kindergarten. Parents are subject to legal action and penalties for non-compliance with this law. Pre-K registration begins Aug. 2.

VFW/Johnson birthday party

The Starks Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the Martin Johnson family will host a party for Johnson’s 102nd birthday Party Saturday, July 17, from 2-7 p.m.

Dancing will be featured from 3-7 p.m. with Michael “ Blackbird” Fruge, and Timmy Dugas and Friends.

Stable-Spirit benefit

A fundraiser for Stable-Spirit, a nonprofit organization providing equine assisted psychotherapy to persons experiencing the crime, crisis, trauma and other issues that may put them at risk, will be at the Chick-Fil-A in Mid-County Wednesday, July 21, from 6-8 p.m.


Supporters should tell the staff they are there for Stable-Spirit in order for proceeds to count for the group.

Boat Club bash

Food, fellowship and games will highlight the Orange Boat Club’s MID-SUMMER BASH Saturday, July 17, for members and invited guests at 2206 Dupont Drive. Patrons should bring side dishes, desserts or snacks.

Big Red fundraiser

The Cardinal Athletic Booster Club will have a boudain and link sale on Saturday, July 17, from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce. Soft drinks and chips will be available.

Livestock meeting

An Orange County Livestock Meeting will be Monday, Aug. 2, at the Extension Office, 11867 Texas 62 N. in Mauriceville across from Market Basket.


Trellis class

Orange County Master Gardeners will offer “Making a Trellis” Saturday, July 17, at the Extension Office, 11867 Texas 62 N. in Mauriceville, across from Market Basket. The class will be hands on training with each person participating will be able to bring their trellis home with them. Class is limited to 20. To preregister, call 882-7010. A $15 registration fee will be payable the day of the class.

BCHS alumni

The Traditions Project to honor Bridge City High School veterans will be on the agenda at a BCHS alumni meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at the Bridge City High School Library. Other discussions includes 2010 homecoming activities to honor 50-year graduates and all former participates of spirit squads (cheerleaders, Cardinal Guard, mascots, flag runners, tunnel crew, etc.)

Red Hot Flashers

The Orange County Red Hot Flashers will meet Thursday, July 15, at 11:30 a.m. at the Sunset Grove Country Club. Joyce Domas, Louisiana Lady, is the birthday lady of the month. All ladies are welcome.

LIT fall registration open

Lamar Institute of Technology is currently registering students for its Fall 2010 semester.

The Fall semester begins on Aug. 23.

Students who are current students may register using the Banner system online.

Incoming students must apply and be accepted to LIT before registering for classes. For more information, students may visit LIT’s Web site, http://www.lit.edu, call (409) 880-8321 or visit the campus at 855 East Lavaca in Beaumont.
