Bridge City Chamber of Commerce named Corey Cargill October’s Student of the Month.

The son of Dennis and Pam Cargill, Corey is a senior at Orangefield High School. He has attained a 3.71 grade point average and is ranked number 43 out of 136.

Cargill was a member of the OHS band as a freshman. He played football as a sophomore, threw the shot put in track as a sophomore and the discus in track as a junior.

He has been a member of the National Honor Society since his junior year and is currently an FFA member.

He worked with the youth group from Mauriceville United Mehtodist Church to help in the Hurricane Ike clean up and worked at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School during the summer performing clean-up and maintenance work.

Cargill has yet to decide which university he will attend, but he would like to play football at the college level and major in chemical engineering.

Ms. May, his senior Physics teacher, says, “Corey Cargill is the epitome of the perfect classroom student. He is in class on time, does all of his work, only talks when appropriate, is respectful, well mannered and maintains excellent grades. I could ask him to do any task and he would do it correctly and without complaint. I have heard the coaches speak positively about him as well, so he has proven to be this way not only in his academic classes but extra-curricular as well. I wish that I had a classroom full of students just like Corey.”

Ms. Crosby, who was his junior English teacher, says, “Corey Cargill was the most ‘quietly successful’ student I’ve taught in a very long time.”
