The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the Texas Rangers have begun an investigation into the death of an inmate, who was incarcerated at the Orange County Jail.

Robert Montano, 41, of Orange died Wednesday after a medical emergency.

Montano was arrested Oct. 7, on public intoxication, and it had been determined he was under the influence of bath salts.

Montano had been in the infirmary since his arrival at the jail. Acadian ambulance and the Orange Fire Dept. responded to the jail to assist with the emergency.

Acadian and fire dept. personnel performed life saving techniques on Montano, but were unsuccessful. Orange County Justice of the Peace, Derry Dunn responded to the scene, and pronounced Montano deceased.
