The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce announced the Student’s of the Month for April at their monthly networking coffee on April 10, 2012 held at Complete Staffing, located at 1145 Texas Avenue in Bridge City. Brooklyn Hogden was chosen as the Bridge City Student of the Month and Lindey Fontenot was chosen as the Orangefield Student of the Month.

Brooklyn Hogden is the daughter of Cody and Ginger Hogden. She is ranked 25 out of her class of 176 with a grade point average of 4.19.

Brooklyn’s academic awards and honors include: National Honor Society Member for grades 10-12. TGCA Academic All-State Volleyball Team grade 12. Bridge City High School Academic Honor Roll for grades 9-12. Scholastic All District Basketball for grades 9-12. Scholastic All District Softball for grades 9 -12. Scholastic All District Volleyball for grades 10-12. President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence grade 11. Bridge City Rotary Youth Award of Scholastic Excellence grades 10-11.

Brooklyn’s Club’s and Organizations include: Member of RYLA Leadership Camp Participant 2011 – nominated by BCHS Staff for academic performance, involvement, leadership skills and service. BCHS Executive Student Council Vice President grade 12, BCHS Student Council Junior Class Treasurer grade 11, BCHS Student Council Class Representative grades 9-10. BCHS Volleyball and Basketball Team Captain grade 12, BCHS Co-Head Cheerleader grade 12, Vice President of Texas Association of Future Educators grade 12, TASC State Convention grades 11-12, Spring Convention grades 9-12 and TASC Summer Workshop grade 11.

In Varsity Volleyball, Brooklyn is a three year Letterman. She is Volleyball Team Captain grade 12, TGCA All State Volleyball Team grade 12, All District First Team grades 11-12, All District Second Team Member grade 10, All Orange Leader First Team grades 11-12, and KOGT Volleyball Team grade 12.

In Varsity Softball Brooklyn is a four year Letterman. She is a 21-3A All District First Team – 2nd Base grade 11, All Orange Leader Second Team grade 11, All District First Team, 2nd Base grade 10, and All Orange Leader First Team grade 11.

In Varsity Basketball, Brooklyn is a four year Letterman, Team Captain grade12, All District Second Team grade 12, All Orange Leaders First Team grade 12, and All District Honorable Mention grade 11.

Brooklyn is a four year Cheerleader, BCHS Co-Head Cheerleader grade 12, NCA All American Award grade 12, NCA Individual Leadership Award Recipient grade 12, NCA Staff Invitation Recipient grade 12. She is the first Head Cheerleader in BCHS History to Receive All American, NCA Individual Leadership Award and NCA Staff Invitation. She has received the NCA All America Award grades 10-11 11, Cheerleading three Award grade 11, Cheerleading two Award grade 10 and was selected to attend Cheer Hawaii of which only 70 participants were chosen nationwide.

Brooklyn is BCHS Homecoming Queen for 2011-2012, BCHS Winter Ball Queen for 2011-2012, BCHS Homecoming Court, grade 10, Winter Ball Court grades 10-11, and was voted Class Favorite by the Freshmen Class of 2009 and the Sophomore Class of 2010.

Brooklyn’s clubs and organizations include: Ready Set Teach Program (2-Year Member), Fellowship of Christian Athletes Member (two year Member), Cardinals for Christ (3-Year Member), Ping Pong Club (1-Year Member), Jefferson County Juniors Volleyball Club 18’s Team – 2012, Orange County Juniors Club Volleyball 2007-2011, First Baptist Church of Bridge City and Winfree Baptist Church- Youth Group.

Brooklyn’s school related community service activities are: help plan, organize and decorate for all CHS events and activities, grades 9-12, Painted Cardinal feet in BCHS parking lot, grades 9-12, Orientation Helper, grades 9-12, decorates trees for the Symphony of Trees Fundraiser, grades 9-12, Red Ribbon Week Drug Free Pep Rally, grades 9-12, Bridge City Little League Challenge League Baseball Games volunteer, grades 9-11, American Cancer Society “Relay for Life” volunteer, grades 9-11, Ready Set Teach Program Teacher’s Aide fourth grade class at Bridge City Intermediate, grades 11-12, Graduation Worker, grade 11, and Hurricane Ike Clean-Up Volunteer.

Her Other community service includes working with “The Refuge”, a faith based outreach organization in Bridge City 2009-2011, serving meals to the homeless, working at services and special events and participating in fundraisers that benefit local and global charities as well as local and global mission trips. She was also involved with mission projects, Summer Bible School and hurricane recoveries with Winfree Baptist Church.

Michelle Huff, Cheer Coach stated: “Brooklyn Hogden is an outstanding student, athlete and person inside and out. Not only is she an honor student and active in four sports, but she makes time for community service. Brooklyn has been a four-year cheerleader and the first head cheerleader in BCHS history to have received the NCA All-American Cheerleader Award, the NCA Individual Leadership Award AND was invited to serve on the NCA staff. Brooklyn is very well liked by her peers, having been chosen as their 2011 Homecoming Queen and 2012 Winter Ball Queen.”

Rebecca Peveto, Volleyball Coach had this to say of Brooklyn: “As her Varsity Volleyball Coach for 3 years, I have had the privilege of knowing Brooklyn Hogden not only as a student-athlete, but also for the extraordinary young woman she is. As her coach, I have seen many examples of her talent and have been impressed by her diligence and work ethic.”

Brooklyn was chosen as our team captain by her teammates her senior year, and has been a vital part of the teams’ accomplishments, which include three play-off appearances.

She ensured the teams’ success by demonstrating leadership abilities that her teammates both admired and respected.

Brooklyn has an undying will to win—doing whatever it takes to accomplish victory.

She has constantly displayed a “We > Me” attitude, and this unselfish behavior is one of the MANY things her teammates and I love about her.

She always shows great initiative & a drive to succeed—hence, the numerous accolades she has received.

Brooklyn has been named to the 21-3A All-District Volleyball team (two years), the All-Orange Leader team (two years), and the All-State Volleyball team!” Me” attitude, and this unselfish behavior is one of the MANY things her teammates and I love about her.

She always shows great initiative & a drive to succeed—hence, the numerous accolades she has received.

Brooklyn is also a dedicated student, and her grades have remained exemplary throughout her career. Her above average performance led her to a spot on both the Academic All-District & All-State Volleyball teams. These awards are a direct result of her hard work and strong focus.

Brooklyn always has a pleasant, encouraging attitude. She is a young lady with exceptional character and conducts herself with class and respect all of the time. Brooklyn Hogden truly epitomizes everything that is good about the human spirit. I am truly honored to have known her both as a player and a person.

Future plans for Brooklyn include attending Houston Baptist University where she will play volleyball and pursue a career in physical therapy.

Lindey Fontenot is the daughter of Melanie and Josh Welch. She is ranked 52 out of her class of 107 with a grade point average of 4.0 and a 3.13 on the Orangefield High School ranking scale.

Lindey’s award and honors are: Drum Major, grade 12, McNeese State University All Star Band, grade 12, Superior rating at Solo and Ensemble contest, grades 9-12.

In Clubs and Organizations, Lindey was on JV and Varsity Track grade 9-11, Student Council grade 11, Band grades 9-12, F.O.R. Club grade 12 and Interact grade 12.

Lindey’s community service contributions are participating in the Adopt a Beach campaign for grades 11 and 12, Hurricane recovery clean up in grades 9 and 10, and participated in can food drives for grades 10, 11, and 12.

Bridget Trawhon, Lindey’s Speech Communication teacher says: “Lindey Fontenot is a kind an honest young lady! I am honored to have been her Speech Communications instructor in her senior year. Lindey was helpful to the freshmen who looked up to her for guidance and assistance. I wish Lindey the best in her future endeavors!”

Laura Slacum, Lindey’s Algebra II teacher stated: “Lindey is always willing to help explain Algebra II problems to classmates who do not understand.”

Lindey’s future plans include attending college at McNeese State University where she will pursue an RN degree in Nursing.

Both Brooklyn and Lindey received a certificate honoring them for their accomplishments along with gift certificates from Walmart, Tiger Rock Martial Arts of Bridge City, Sabine Federal Credit Union, COS Printing and David Self Ford.
