Tuesday, April 17, Officer Michael Roush was dispatched to the OPD lobby in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, Officer Roush met with a man who wanted to file a report in regards to an assault that occurred at the Shell station located at 7411 IH-10.

The victim, Terry Lumpkin, told police that he was inside the store attempting to make a purchase with his debit card. Lumpkin advised that during the purchase the clerk told him that he had to buy several dollars worth of merchandise before he could use his debit card.

Lumpkin said that after about the third time he went to the cooler and came back to the counter, he made a comment to the clerk as a joke. The clerk apparently didn’t take it as a joke and started an argument.

Lumpkin advised that at this time he told the clerk he had changed his mind and did not wish to make the purchase after all, and started to walk out of the business. As he walked out of the business, he said he again made a comment and the clerk threw a 20 oz. plastic soda bottle at him, striking him in the arm.

Lumpkin stated that although he wasn’t hurt, he wished to have a police report completed.
