Monday morning, April 23, Officer Joshua Dempsey was dispatched to the intersection of Park St. and Wickard St. in reference to a man laying on the side of the roadway. Upon arrival, Officer Dempsey made contact with the man who identified himself as Michael Thomas, 49, of Port Arthur.

When Officer Dempsey attempted to ask Thomas why he was lying on the side of the road, Thomas immediately became irate and starting yelling and cursing at police, and vehicles that were passing by.

Officer Dempsey asked Thomas to calm down, and said that he was just trying to check on him and make sure everything was ok. Thomas acted like he couldn’t hear Officer Dempsey, and continued to yell profanities at police and passersby.

Thomas was placed into custody for disorderly conduct, and transported to the Orange County Jail.
