In honor of Arbor Day, and in conjunction with the “Acorns of Hope” program, St. Mary Catholic School received five Orange Island Oak trees. Four of the trees were planted in front of the school, while the fifth one was planted in the back.

Mr. Robert “Bob” Thibodeaux with Bob’s Tree Preservation from Church Point arrived at the school Friday morning to donate and plant the trees. Mr. Joseph Johnson of Shangri La was also here to assist and explain the many purposes trees are need to preserve the earth.

The men explained to the students about Arbor Day. Mr. Thibodeaux explained that they had a goal to plant 10,000 trees in the five years after Hurricane Katrina. They were only able to plant 8,500. However, in the 6th year they have almost reached the 10,000 tree goal.
