Ham Radio Field Day to be held June 23, 24

Last updated 5/27/2012 at Noon

The Orange Amateur Radio Club will meet at Fire Station One located at 501 7th Street in Orange, June 23-24 to host this National Event. The public is invited from noon until 6 p.m. Saturday.

This is the National Field Day Event for Amateur Radio. Throughout the US and Canada, approximately 35,000 operators will be setting up radio stations in public locations and making contacts with other radio operators for 24 hours as a display of our emergency communications capabilities.

In the past year alone, hams have made headlines with their volunteer services in the California and Texas wildfires, Oregon floods, Michigan storms, tornadoes and other crises.

The Hams provide emergency communications for many government and civic organizations in disasters. In addition, they provide supplemental communications when normal systems are rendered inoperable or overloaded.
