William Lavelle Greer Sr. left this life Sunday, Nov. 18. Billy was born in Delhi, LA., on July 26, 1944, to Janice and Edderds Greer. He was raised in West Orange, and graduated from Starks High School in 1962. Billy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Huselton Greer; his two sons, William Lavelle Greer Jr. and wife, Cathie Hanson Greer and James Patrick Greer and his wife, Christy Bean Greer; his sister, Joyce Greer Cockerham; half brothers Chucky and Paul Richardson; his favorite Aunt Mary Lou Wallace, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was a hero to his seven grandchildren James Cody Greer, Jacob William Greer, Jayce Ann Greer, Joseph Patrick Greer, Caleb Bryant Greer, Jared James Greer, and Cayla Christine Greer. They all lovingly referred to him as their dear “Papa”.

Papa was a very talented and dedicated man who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and was always there cheering on his grandchildren in all their activities. Billy worked many jobs over the years, first as a carpenter, then as a Highway Patrolman, and he was a retired Railroad Engineer. He could fix anything that was broken, build anything you needed, and was an amazing cook.

Our favorite dishes were his pecan pies, cheesecake, homemade bread, a thick steak-medium rare, and his world class barbecue. He would always be willing to help at the drop of a hat and would give you the shirt off his back. He loved the Lord and was a Youth Sunday School teacher for several years. Papa left us with so many wonderful memories and his family will cherish them for a lifetime. He was a great man, husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by us all.

A visitation on will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Dorman Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Cremation will be held under the direction Dorman Funeral Home following the services.
