You can see the wheels turning in the heads of those left out of Aunt Louise’s will. How can they turn their misfortune around? What happens next is for you to figure out.

The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce hosts its 3rd annual Mystery Dinner Theater at 7 p.m. this Friday and Saturday at the Community Center.

Brandy Slaughter said they only have about five tables left for the Saturday performance and she hopes the Friday event does as well. This is the first time they have had two performances. Friday is “family night” with less expensive tickets, kid friendly fare of pizza and no alcohol.

Step back into the 70s and visit with a wacky dysfunctional family in “Reading Aunt Louise’s Will.”

Will Vergil make it through the night? Will Alex? If they both die, even the order it happens in makes a difference in who benefits from those actions. It’s up to the audience to solve this murder mystery directed by Orange Community Players, Inc. members Jody Chesson and Adam Conrad.

The cast includes: Alex Edgerly as Ronnie Badger; Ethel Marchand as Judy Badger; Sarah Briggs as Regina Tutwiler; Juan Gonzales as Alex Reindorf; Caitlin Pridemore as Samantha Reindorf; Elyse Thibodeaux as Shirley McElroy; Troy Shelton as Willie McElroy; Lisa Rougeau as Daisy McElroy; Angela Thames as Robin Wilson; Brandy Slaughter as Daphne Davis; Eric Andrus as Virgil Reindorf; Jeff Thames as Throckmorton T. Phillpott; and Brian Hudson as Chief Armond Bledsoe. Ashley Morgan will be the emcee for the evening. Kevin Morgan will be the detective that reveals the murderer and their motives. Trey Tomplait is in charge of sound.

“It’s been successful every year,” said Andrus. “Hopefully we’re going to get everything right; get our lines down, do what we’re supposed to do and make everybody laugh.”

Slaughter jokingly said Andrus’ frequent adlibs were messing up some of the other players who were not used to acting.

“If someone messes up their lines, it’s up to the people in the scene to help them,” said Andrus in his defense. “Hey Willie, Samantha wants to talk to you,” is one adlib he threw out there to remind Shelton he missed his cue to go to the front and have a discussion with Pridemore.

Van Choate is catering Saturday’s meal which includes: pulled pork, rotisserie marinated chicken, fried catfish, Cajun rice dressing, seasoned green beans and French fries. “He said we won’t run out of food,” said Slaughter. She is considering having the Ambassadors make brownies for dessert.

It wasn’t until they started practicing that Slaughter learned what the brownie connection was to the 60s and 70s.

“Elyse started talking about the brownies and I thought, ‘What the heck is she talking about?’ Everybody was laughing at work because I didn’t know what the brownies were about.” Slaughter said she had to ask her mother about the brownies to get the answer. They will be the appropriate dessert.

Stop by the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce office from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through Friday, or call 735-5671 to reserve a table.

Friday, tickets will cost $20 per person or $150 per table of 8.

Saturday, tickets are $40 per person or $300 per table of 8, and $50 to decorate a table. No one under 21 will be admitted to Saturday’s performance because of the alcohol being served.
