Thelma Worsham Hammers Beeson, 99, a resident of Orange for over 60 years, died Saturday, March 16, in Rockwall. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. Randy Branch, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church in Orange. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born in Gary, TX., on Oct. 31, 1913, Thelma was the daughter of J.A. Worsham and Kate Laird Worsham. She worked as an LVN at Orange Memorial Hospital for many years. Thelma loved her church, and up until the age of 93, she loved playing dominos, going out to eat, and volunteering at OCS. She was known by her nieces and nephews as “Aunt Sissy”.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas N. Hammers and Bracie H. Beeson; brothers, “Shorty” Worsham, Kenneth Worsham, and Bill Worsham; and her son, James T. Hammers.


Thelma is survived by her sister, Tommie Spell of Conroe; sister-in-law, Mavis Worsham of Orange; son, Jerry L. Hammers and wife Marie of Rockwall; daughter-in-law, Pat Hammers of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Jerry L. Hammers II of Orangefield, Brett Hammers of Memphis, Bob Hammers of Sunnyvale, Michele Hammers of Los Angeles, CA, Mark Hammers of Floydada; eight great-grandchildren; and is expecting the arrival of her first great great-grandchild in April. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
