Richard Corder

Long time KOGT radio announcer Richard “BBRC” Corder, age 79, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at his home, following a lengthy illness.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 in the chapel of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. John Fortenberry, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Deweyville. Eulogies will be given by Gary Stelly and Mr. Corder’s four sons.

The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service.

Born in Port Arthur on Jan. 4, 1934, Arthur Richard Corder Jr. was the son of Arthur Richard Corder Sr. and Cordelia Dee (Ainsworth) Corder. He worked for KOGT radio for 51 years where he was an on air personality and involved with advertising sales.

Richard was an avid fisherman and loved fishing with his sons and grandchildren. He was an ambassador for the sport of bass fishing and was a charter member of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. In later years he began playing golf and also enjoyed a good game of chess.


Richard was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Ruth Corder of Orange; sons, Craig Corder of Huntsville, Bart Corder and his wife, Georgia, of the Hartburg Community, Mark Corder of Austin and Chris Corder of LaPorte.

Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brooke Corder, Troy Corder, Campbell Corder, Larisa Corder, Stephanie Corder, Hannah Corder and Evane Corder.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hartburg Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 603, Deweyville, Texas 77614 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.


Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home.
