Joseph Gus Cormier, Sr., 85, of Orange, and former resident of Orangefield, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at United Pentecostal Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be the Rev. John Harrell, pastor of United Pentecostal Church in Bridge City, and the Rev. Jeffrey Pitman, pastor of United Pentecostal Church in Kountze. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City. Serving as Pallbearers will be Keith Morgan, Justin Morgan, Joey Cormier, Larry Hammett, Marlan Verdine, and Don Holston.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, also at the church.

Born in Church Pointe, La., on Jan. 23, 1928, Joseph was the son of Joseph Cormier and Estelle (Comeaux) Cormier. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired after 39 years as a Production Foreman at DuPont Sabine River Works. He was a faithful member of United Pentecostal Church in Bridge City and enjoyed traveling to Canada, airplanes and flying. He also had served on the board of Orange County Airport.

Joseph was a loving husband for 60 years, father, grandfather, and friend who will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ella Mae Stevens; and brother, Horace Cormier.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Velma Cormier of Orange; sons, Van Roy (Butch) Morgan of Bridge City, Joey Cormier and wife, Gay of West Orange; and daughter, Debbie Cormier of Orange. He is also survived by sister, Emma Lou Slater of Mauriceville; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
