Mustang band to perform at Sugar Bowl

The West Orange-Stark High School Mighty Mustang Band will be representing the entire State of Texas at the All State Sugar Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

The band will perform during halftime with other selected bands from across the nation. The band was invited to perform at the invitation only show by the World Strides Heritage Society. This appears to be the last year that high school bands will be invited to take part in the show, making this performance even more special for the group.

The band will be departing WO-S High School Monday, Dec. 30, at noon. Mustang fans are asked to line Newton St., and cheer the Mighty Mustang Band off to represent Texas in New Orleans.

In addition to performing at the Sugar Bowl, the band will also perform at Jackson Square in the New Orleans’ famous French Quarter. Other itinerary items include partaking in beignets at Café du Monde, a dinner cruise aboard the steamboat Natchez Riverboat, and visiting the National World War II Museum.

Another exciting factor for the Mustangs is that will have the opportunity to watch former Mustang Trey Franks play as his Oklahoma Sooners take on the Crimson Tide of Alabama at this year’s Sugar Bowl.

The West Orange-Stark High School Mighty Mustang Band is directed by Ray Lavan.
