Colburn Fishing

Just like “catching” better than “fishing”? Now is the time to take advantage of a terrific redfish bite. The lure fishermen are getting it done in the bayous and lake while the bait fishermen are taking advantage of the river and popular spots like Burton’s Ditch and the DuPont Outfall. Both fresh shrimp and mullet work equally well fished on a Carolina rig with a large enough weight to combat the speed of the tide.

I saw Scott Bandy at the TPWD scoping meeting in Port Arthur Thursday night and he asked me to remind area folks about the Orange County CCA Chapter meeting to be held Feb. 10th at 6:30 p.m. at Robert’s Steak House. The Orange Chapter has done an incredible job in spite of a relatively small membership compared to other chapters across the state.

Their banquet ranked in the Top Six in the entire state as far as the amount of money generated in support of the CCA in 2013. The banquet was a “sold out- packed to the walls affair” that few would have ever dreamed possible. If you are a saltwater fisherman, you owe it to yourself and your kids to make one of these meetings and support the CCA. Scott, Lou and the gang can use your help and the annual S.T.A.R. Tournament is worth the dues alone!
