It’s a rare and special thing to be named number one in a company with a worldwide presence.

Particularly if your dealership is in small-town Buna, Texas.

Texas Tractor Company leads the company in tractor sales, is the number one parts dealer for Mahindra. They’ve also won the excellence award six times, the Outstanding Sales Performance award and was named a red carpet dealership, according to Manager George Holder.

Holder, in fact, personally won a trip to India where the company began. There is also a full-line NAPA auto parts Care Care Center on the lot that opened on January 3.

Texas Tractor Company is owned by David Self who also owns David Self Ford in Orange and the Tractor Store in Winnie.

Holder has been selling Mahindras for more than 20 years. He believes Mahindras are popular with customers because of the five year warranty.

“You get more value for your money,” he said. “We’re the number one selling tractor in the world and number three in the U.S.”

Mahindra was founded in 1945 as a steel trading company, according to their website. They entered automotive manufacturing in 1947 to bring the Willys Jeep onto Indian roads.

Over the years, they’ve diversified into many new businesses in order to better meet the needs of their customers. Their business model principle has led growth into a U.S. $16.7 billion multinational group with more than 180,000 employees in over 100 countries across the globe.

Today, their operations span 18 key industries that form the foundation of every modern economy: aeropspace, aftermarket, agribusiness, automotive, components, construction equipment, consulting services, defense, energy, farm equipment, finance, industrial equipment, information technology, leisure and hospitality, logistics, real estate, retail and two wheelers.

The dealership has another claim to fame.

Buna residents W.C. and Mary Kay Cole were the first to buy a Mahindra tractor in North America more than 20 years ago.

Consequently, the company honored the couple and the David Self sales staff at the bi-annual conference in Nashville, Tenn.

That tractor the Coles bought 20 years ago is still running. Since then, they have returned to the dealership and purchased two more tractors.
