The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is continuing a winter weather advisory for our entire region Thursday night, and into Friday. A mix of rain and sleet should begin in east Texas and central Louisiana Thursday evening, before transitioning to mostly snow after midnight. Total snow accumulations should be around one inch in east Texas, and less than one inch in central Louisiana.

Further south, southeast Texas and southwest and south central Louisiana will see patchy light rain this evening transition to a mix of light sleet and freezing rain after midnight. This precipitation could linger through the morning hours, before ending sometime Friday afternoon. Total ice accumulations will be less than a quarter inch in southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana, and less than one tenth of an inch in south central Louisiana.

The first place problems will be evident, will be bridges and overpasses, and any other elevated roadways across the entire region; after midnight Thursday through Friday morning. Also, some ice could accumulate on trees and power lines, causing scattered power outages. Southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana will have the highest threat for these scattered power outages.

The NWS will be monitoring this winter system, and send updates as necessary throughout the night Thursday and Friday.
