Velma Lee Raymer Morvent was born on April 4, 1929 in Jasper, to James Benjamin and Elnora Raymer. She married Charles Morvent Jr. and shared a marriage of 56 years. She became a mother to a daughter and a son; and raised them in Mauriceville, in a house that she and her husband built themselves, and where they shared their lives together.Velma was a mother by trade; she was a homemaker, and family came first. She worked for the Mauriceville School District after her kids were grown and retired from there in 1992.

Velma was a quiet, private lady, and keep to herself unless she felt a family member needed "a good talking to" or you did her wrong, then her temper would show, but even then her compassion and love shined through. When you were injured or sick, she would know of a "wives tale" that could fix it.

Velma loved playing card games, drinking her morning coffee, and her shopping trips every weekend. She loved having flowers and bushes blooming in her yard. She had been given grandchildren, great, and great-great grandchildren to fill her years with love, laughter and memories.

After 84 years of life, Velma passed away with family surrounding her on March 2.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Morvent Jr .; son, Charles Allen Morvent, and five sibling.

Those that will cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Lummus; six grandchildren, Todd Lummus, Donnie Lummus, Crystal Lummus Simmons, Kevin Lummus, Christy Morvent Cunningham, Michelle Morvent LeBleu; 14 great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, James Raymer and larger extended family.

A visitation will be held Friday, March 7, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Dorman Funeral Home. A Christian burial service will be held Saturday, March 8, at 3:00 pm at the funeral home, with the Rev. Delphene Meeks officiating. Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park.
