Arrest leads to conficastion of 350 lbs. of marijuana

On Wednesday, May 28, 2014, around 12:30 p.m., Orange County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were eastbound on IH-10 near Martin Luther King Jr.


in Orange, Orange County, Texas, when they observed a black passenger van also traveling eastbound.

The driver of the van failed to signal a lane change and abruptly exited the Interstate near Adams Bayou.

The Deputies activated the emergency lighting and siren behind the van, but the driver accelerated and reached a speed around 90 mph while on the eastbound service road.

The van proceeded onto N. 16th and then turned westbound on the IH-10 service road.

The driver of the van continued without stopping and entered IH-10 westbound traveling at speeds near 115 mph.

As the van approached the area of IH-10 at the Womack overpass, other Deputies were arriving in the area ahead of the van.

As the suspect driver observed the Deputies ahead, he pulled the van over at the IH-10 and Hwy 62 exit.

The driver was the lone occupant in the vehicle and was taken into custody for Evading Arrest.

305 lbs. marijuana

Once the suspect was detained, approximately 350 pounds of marijuana was found in the back of the passenger van.

It was wrapped in black garbage bags, several layers of plastic wrap, packaging tape, and aluminum foil.

The suspect was later identified as 30 year old white male

Luis Cendejas of Fort Pierce, Florida. Cendejas was taken to the Orange County Jail where he was booked for Evading Arrest, a State Jail Felony, and Possession of Marijuana, a 2nd Felony. Cendejas remains in custody awaiting arraignment.
