Fire claims life of Vidor woman

Sunday, June 15, at approximately 3:16 am, Orange County Sheriff’s officers, along with the Vidor VFD, responded to a house fire in the 3200 block of S. Main, in Vidor.

Two adults and a nine year old child made it to safety, but they couldn’t reach an elderly female who also resided in the home. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they were able to reach the woman who was still inside, but were unable to save her.

The woman, 79 year old Dorothy Hampshire, was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace, Judge Price. Price has also ordered an autopsy.

The other three people who made it to safety were taken to a Beaumont hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

It was reported that another adult male lived at the residence, was unaccounted for after the fire was extinguished.

The state Fire Marshall’s office is also investigating the fire. Officers are still on scene investigating.
