The Lamar University Department of Mathematics is providing free math tutoring for students in grades K-12th at the R.C. Miller Library on Dowlen Road each Wednesday evening from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The program began Sept. 3 and currently serves approximately 100 students per week by providing tutoring for their math homework.

“The program has been so successful,” said Kumer Das, LU associate professor of mathematics, “I am getting calls from other libraries in southeast Texas to begin similar programs at their locations as well.”

There are 20 Lamar faculty members and students who regularly volunteer for the clinic, but any individual with pertinent math skills is welcome to volunteer for the program. According to Das, more volunteers are needed for the growing number of students who are taking advantage of the free tutoring. For more information about how to become a volunteer math tutor, contact Kumer Das at [email protected] or call at (409) 880-7947.
