OPD apprehends escaped prisoner

UPDATE - Friday, Sept. 26, at about 10:24 am, Joshua Melvin Harper was taken into custody. Acting on a tip, Officers went to a residence in the 400 block of Cypress, where Harper had been staying. He was found hiding behind furniture in a bedroom. He was taken into custody and transported to the Orange County Jail.

PREVIOUS REPORT - Officers with the Orange Police Department are searching for a prisoner who escaped from a patrol vehicle early Friday morning. At about 2:00 am, officers arrested 24 year old Joshua Melvin Harper, when he was found inside a disabled vehicle in the 1700 block of 16th St.

While officers were dealing with the vehicle and another person, Harper managed to escape from the back of a patrol vehicle and flee on foot while handcuffed. He was wearing a blue tank top shirt and light colored shorts. At this time Harper is still at large. Harper lives in Freestone county but he is from Orange.

The vehicle was reported stolen from Freestone county.
