UPDATE

The name of the auto pedestrian accident victim ha sbeen released. The man has been identified as Richard Greer Lindley, 50, of West Orange. W/M 01/08/1964

On Sept. 27, at 8:37 P.M., Orange police responded to a call of a traffic accident at 16th and Sholars involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.

Officers arrived on scene and observed the pedestrian lying in the roadway. Through independent witnesses and the officers' investigation, it was determined that the pedestrian suddenly stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The driver was unable to stop the vehicle and struck the pedestrian. EMS personnel treated the male on scene and transferred him over to an air ambulance for transport to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

While being treated at St. Elizabeth, the man succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of his next-of-kin.
