Bridge City Independent School District will begin the process of looking for a new head football coach.

In a statement issued by the district former athletic director and head football coach Cris Stump will continue to teach Physical Education at BCISD.

“Bridge City ISD is moving in a different direction with regards to the Head Football Coach position as Cris Stump will no longer be the Head Football Coach at Bridge City High School,” the statement read.

“Coach Stump will continue to teach PE in the district. Bridge City ISD appreciates and thanks Coach Stump for his work with our Football Program and its student/athletes and we wish him the best in all of his future endeavors.”

“Athletic Director Richard Briggs will post the Head Football Coach position and we will begin the search immediately for the next Head Football Coach at Bridge City High School. We are confident that we will find the right person to lead our Football Program during this state wide search.”

Cris Stump, 50, became athletic director and head football coach in February 2007 replacing then athletic director Claude Tarver. Prior to coming to Bridge City he was the offensive coordinator at Westbrook High School in Beaumont.

Stump is a 1981 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Lamar University in 1986.
