Day Tripping - Rio Theater restored to golden era of theaters

Last updated 7/7/2015 at Noon

The Rio Theater in Center, Texas is a restored movie venue that first opened in 1929. The owners have taken pride in their project and have been faithful to the original. The seating is updated, as are the lights. The popcorn machine is a 1964 model and there is still a 1950s projector in the projection room. It is unused, but ready to go if need arises. Sitting next to it is the new digital model. The Rio is a comfortable place to watch a movie. The atmosphere will take you back to the days when movies were king and theaters like the Rio were the place to go on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Rio Movie Theater has never been closed since 1926. It is one of the oldest single screen continuous running theatres in the state of Texas.
