Historical BC bridge completed, scheduled to reopen

The community is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the re-opening of the Cow Bayou Swing Bridge, Friday, Aug. 14, at 8:00 am.

The ceremony will take place at the south end of the bridge. There will also be an operational demonstration of the bridge.

In a nearly two year project, the bridge has undergone a $2.55 million face lift and had restored controls added to the wheelhouse for opening and closing the bridge. Some of the controls were no longer being made, so they were sent off to a machine shop to be rebuilt.

The bridge was named to the National Register of Historical Places in Texas on May 10, 2010 as one of only two swing bridges in the state.

It is unknown if the taller bridge will be closed to remove lane dividers once the swing bridge has reopened. The record will update as details become available.
