The National Weather Service has tracked a cold front to near the coast. This has resulted in near normal temperatures, and much lower dew points. In general, near normal temperatures are expected over the next week, giving us a break from the oppressive heat we have seen in the past week.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase in coverage this weekend and early next week. This could be the wettest week since June, with 1-3 inches of rain possible along and south of the I-10 corridor from southeast Texas across southwest and south central Louisiana.

There is also a small chance for strong to severe storms in the Sunday through Tuesday time frame, mainly for gusty winds over 50 to 60 mph and deadly lightning.

In the tropics, activity will continue to be quiet in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, and Atlantic Ocean.
