Chief Donald D. Dixon and members of the Lake Charles Police Department share the sorrow and tears of the Louisiana State Police as we all mourn the tragic, senseless death of Senior Trooper Steven James Vincent.

Senior Trooper Vincent began his law enforcement career at the Lake Charles Police Department. He worked for LCPD from Nov. 19, 1992 until his resignation on Nov. 30, 2003, 11 years and 11 days, to begin working for the Louisiana State Police, where he was currently employed.

The events that unfolded Sunday, Aug. 23, while Senior Trooper Vincent was responding to a call of a vehicle driving erratically are deplorable and unfathomable except to those who could so callously take the innocent life of someone rendering assistance.

It is indeed a sad day for law enforcement. A good man has lost the fight for his life and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Bravery such as this and the courage of the passers-by who rendered aid and retained the suspect are the true heroes. “The thin blue just got a little thinner, but our resolve will always be strong”, said Chief Dixon.
