In celebration of the Gift of Life Program’s 20th anniversary, the organization is making available hundreds of additional free clinical breast exams and mammograms for financially eligible women throughout Southeast Texas. The program’s compassionate staff creates a warm and welcoming experience, providing childcare, refreshments and transportation to Baptist Hospitals Beaumont and Orange, as well as to numerous mobile van sites. Immediate openings are currently available for women who cannot afford medical care and either have no insurance or a high deductible.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. Approximately one in eight women in the US will develop invasive breast cancer during her lifetime. This year, it is estimated that 231,840 women will be diagnosed with the disease. Decreases in breast cancer morbidity rates are directly attributable to earlier detection through screening and enhanced awareness, as well as progressive treatment options. Early detection truly is the best detection.

In response to the medical needs of underserved women, the Gift of Life has created a regional full spectrum of care to reduce healthcare disparities through the provision of free breast cancer screenings, critical cancer education and extensive case management for women who require diagnostic evaluations and cancer treatment.

The Gift of Life has provided thousands of women with breast cancer screenings and additional diagnostic tests, including ultrasounds and biopsies, when necessary. Since its inception, more than 175 Southeast Texas women have been diagnosed with breast cancer and navigated into treatment.
