Lamar State College – Orange is ready for Southeast Texas to reclaim its maritime heritage.

With the spotlight of World Maritime Day as a backdrop, the college is pleased to invite the community to a press conference at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Downtown Orange Pavilion to learn more about LSC-O’s developing Maritime program.

The theme for this year’s World Maritime Day is “Maritime Education and Training,” a fitting topic as LSC-O embarks on this journey to equip future seafarers with the high standards essential for serving on board ships.

The college was recently awarded state funding for the creation of the Maritime program and is excited to offer this training to individuals from Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana, individuals who otherwise may not have the opportunity to learn this trade.

As many in the current maritime workforce prepare for retirement, it is vitally important that quality trained seafarers are available to take over to ensure its sustainability.

Attending the press conference will be representatives from the local maritime industry, and Texas Workforce Commission representatives as well as individuals who assisted Lamar State College – Orange in receiving the state funding.

We invite you to join LSC-O in the celebration of World Maritime Day and the new Maritime program.
