Daily Weather Update Oct. 23

Last updated 10/23/2015 at Noon

There are two significant weather problems forecast for Sunday: 1) heavy rain and flash flooding and 2) high tides and coastal flooding.

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has increased the rain totals forecast for later this weekend into early next week. Between 5 and 7 inches of rain can be expected across the region, with the highest totals along and south of the I-10 corridor of southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. The timing of the heaviest rain will be between midnight Sunday morning through 6 am Monday. Street flooding can be expected during periods of heavy rain.

Due to strong southeast winds, tides will run above normal through the weekend, reaching their highest levels on Sunday. During high tides between 1-3 am Sunday morning and again 1-3 pm Sunday afternoon, actual tide readings will be between 4 and 5 ft MLLW. This will result in coastal flooding across parts of southeast Texas and southwest and south central Louisiana. It will also contribute to slow runoff of the heavy rains across the area.
