BC second graders study Egg to Chick program

Last updated 3/22/2016 at Noon

Second graders at Bridge City Elementary School recently learned about incubating and caring for chicken eggs as the eggs go through the incubation and hatching process. Teachers plan on meeting and putting together appropriate materials for each grade level that builds from year to year to teach the students about the life cycle of a chicken.

Bridge City Elementary has partnered with the local county 4-H extension agent, Christina Ritter, from the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Services in Orange County for the Egg to Chick program. The 4-H Program offers teacher training on how to incubate chicken eggs and our second grade teacher Mrs. Cunningham went through the training.

After training has been provided, the 4-H program provides the school with 30 fertile eggs. The eggs are placed in a general and easily accessible area so that each class in the school can participate. Mrs. Ritter provides educational material and support for the teachers as needed.
