The voice of one of the most popular bands in the world of the past 20 years will be performing in concert this week.

Scott Stapp, the voice of the popular rock group Creed, will perform Thursday, Aug. 4, at The Gig, which is located in the Crockett Street Entertainment District in downtown Beaumont. Tickets are $20 to $25 for ages 18 and older and can be purchased online at http://www.outhousetickets.com, at Guitar and Banjo Studio in Beaumont, area Florida Tans locations and at the door on the night of the show. The doors open at 7 p.m., Thursday, with local rock band Image Six opening the show.

As part of Creed, Stapp and his bandmates sold approximately 25 million albums around the world in a span of six years and in three albums featuring popular songs such as "My Own Prison," "Higher," "What's This Life For," "What If," and the group's Grammy Award winning song, "With Arms Wide Open."

As a solo artist, Stapp has released two albums. In November of 2005, he released the platinum selling record, "The Great Divide," which peaked at number 19 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart and features the singles "Justify" and the title track.

In November 2013, he released the album "Proof of Life," which peaked at number 37 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and features the songs "Slow Suicide" and the title track, which peaked at number one and number two, respectively, on the Christian rock singles chart.

While it is well known Stapp has struggled with numerous issues involving alcohol and drug addiction, as well as misdiagnosed bi-polar issue that is now under control, he knows the importance of taking everything one day at a time.

"My faith and my family have helped me fight my demons," Stapp said of his past problems. "I've been fighting these demons a long time and I know what it is I need to do every day to be successful."

Stapp is kicking off the second leg of his "Proof of Life" tour in Beaumont. Although the album has been out for more than two-and-a-half years, he never did finish supporting the record the way he wanted.

"I had to take a year off because of things that happened in my life," Stapp said in reference to the above mentioned issues. "Typically, you tour for a record for about two years to do it right. I've been spending this last year touring and recording new song ideas, when I am able to get back to New York and New Jersey. I have some demos ready for the next record now."

Creed was one of the most popular bands in the world for a brief window, especially during the period in the late '90s and early 2000 when the group's sophomore record "Human Clay" sold more than 11 million copies and achieved diamond status.

The band has always garned huge fans support, while critics have been a bit more fickle.

"I felt like Creed got the love and respect from the fans, but the critics kind of turned on us as we became more successful," he said. "That's really typical of critics though because they supported us when we first came out."

Stapp's performance should please not only his solo fans, but also those who are fans of Creed.

"This will be like two shows at the same time," Stapp explained. "I will play a few songs off my 'Proof of Life' record, but I will also perform all of the Creed hits and albums tracks from those records that I really like. The fans will get to hear their favorite songs and get introduced to stuff from my new album too. And it's a big production. I try to bring an arena-style show to every venue I play."
