The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is monitoring Tropical Depression 9, which is now on the verge of becoming a tropical storm in the southern Gulf of Mexico. The forecast track still shows a landfall on Thursday in the Big Bend region of the west coast of Florida. The only local weather affects we are seeing is tides running about a foot above normal, which will continue as long as there is a tropical cyclone in the Gulf of Mexico. Tides will be running out this afternoon and evening, before the next high tide after midnight tonight.

The other tropical systems that are currently ongoing include Tropical Depression 8, which is a threat to North Carolina, Hurricane Gaston, an Atlantic hurricane moving away from the US and a new low pressure system that moved off the African coast last night, that has a medium (40%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone late this week. It is too early to say if it will be a threat to the Gulf of Mexico later next week.
