A band which defined a generation is back on the road and preparing to rock its Texas faithful fans for the first time in six years this weekend.

Poison, featuring vocalist, Bret Michaels; guitarist C.C. DeVille; drummer, Rikki Rockett; and bassist, Bobby Dall, will perform on Sunday, June 3, as the band brings its “Nothin’ But A Good Time Tour 2018” to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands. Tickets start at $23 and can be purchased online at http://www.ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at 800-745-3000. Special guests include Cheap Trick and Pop Evil.

Poison has sold more than 45 million records worldwide, but it is the band’s sophomore album, “Open Up and Say…Ahh!” which garnered the group its most success. The album, which was released 30 years ago in May 1988, features hit singles “Nothin’ But a Good Time,” “Your Mama Don’t Dance,” “Fallen Angel,” and the band’s number one hit, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.”

“Some people cannot believe it has already been 30 years since that album came out, but it is easy for me to believe it because I’ve lived it,” said Poison bassist Bobby Dall, with a laugh, during a recent telephone interview. “But at the same time, I get what they mean. It seems so long ago, but it just seems like yesterday too.”

Dall said the band was under a lot of pressure to have another hit record following the success of its debut album, “Look What the Cat Dragged In,” which was released in August of 1986.

“After the success of the first record, there was a lot of pressure on us to do it again,” Dall explained. “We recorded the album with producer Tom Werman, and it turned out to be a fantastic record.”

The album went on to sell more than five million copies in the United States alone, and peaked at number two on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 albums chart. The subsequent tour was a big hit too.

“We went out on the road as the opening act for David Lee Roth on his “Skyscraper” tour for three or four months, and he was such a great guy and treated us well. I have nothing but love and blessings for Dave,” Dall added. “But we were able to start headlining after that because of how well the album was doing. We were very fortunate.”

Fast forward to 2018 and Poison is in the middle of another trek across the United States with shows looming in Dallas on Saturday, June 2, and The Woodlands, June 3. Dall said the band is excited to celebrate the 30th anniversary of what could arguably be considered its career-defining album.

“We will play all four hits from that album, of course,” he said. “Some bands will go out on tour and play the whole album, from start to finish, but we can’t focus on one record. We have to play all of our hit songs, and that’s what most fans want, in my opinion.”

When asked how difficult it might be to construct a set list for the band’s current tour, Dall said it is not as difficult as one might assume.

“Having as many hit songs as we do, it is a luxury that takes care of itself,” Dall said. “When you have a catalog of songs as deep as ours, well, it just makes things easier.”

Various bandmembers have stated in other recent interviews how different the current tour production is from previous tours, but Dall did not want to give away any spoilers in advance of Sunday’s performance.

“I really don’t want to give away too much because I want fans to have the experience of seeing it, but it really is different than what we have done in the past,” he stated. “It’s really cool and I think the fans at our Houston-area show will really like it.”

The Poison tour is scheduled to run through July 1 where it will end in Florida, and, as successful as this summer tour has started out, then the band goes it separate ways once again.

“There’s nothing else on the books for the rest of the year after that,” Dall said. “That’s all we had on schedule for this year. I know there are a lot of fans who want to see us still, but everyone has other obligations for the rest of this year. As for more tours, I’m not sure, but there is always next year, so we will have to see what happens.”
