There will be rain this week in the area. The question is will it end in time for residents to enjoy their fireworks for Wednesday night?

Jared Rackley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, said Tuesday's rain chances will be increasing to 40 percent coverage for the area in the afternoon. There's an 80 percent chance of rain for Wednesday. Rainfall amounts are estimated to be three-inches to four-inches for the area. Some local areas may see more rainfall.

Street flooding may be possible from heavier thunderstorms, but Rackley is not estimating widespread flooding.

Storms may possibly clear out by Wednesday evening to watch fireworks on the fourth of July.

The rainfall is attributed to a circulation in the Gulf of Mexico that is moving quickly, but still hugging the coast. On a side note, the rain should bring a break in the very hot temperatures.

"This should be the last day (Monday) for mid to upper 90s," he said. "There may be excessive rainfall in the Houston metro area to New Orleans on Tuesday and Wednesday. The rain will be centered around Houston that touches all the way to Southwest Louisiana, but it will be moving fairly quickly."
