Last updated 3/9/2020 at Noon

(ORANGE, TX) – Discover the art and life of Ila McAfee, whose love of horses sparked her inspiration during our next Lunch & Look.

Join Stark Museum of Art Curator Sarah E. Boehme for a slide talk on Saturday, March 28, 2020, from 12 to 1 p.m. McAfee’s pen and ink with watercolor of Horses, on view in The Drawing Experience, will be the starting point to explore how McAfee crafted a successful career from her White Horse Studio in Taos, New Mexico. Her painting The Four Seasons graced the cover of the art manual How to Draw Horses. The talk will look at McAfee’s other subjects, such as her paintings of Lutcher Stark’s Longhorn cattle.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own brown bag lunch for this program, and coffee service will be provided throughout the presentation.

Jennifer Restauri Dickinson commented, “The Lunch & Look program provides visitors a special opportunity to come together and enjoy a meal together while learning about the incredible artists in our collection. I am thrilled that our curator Sarah E. Boehme has chosen to present a closer look at the work of Ila McAfee, and I know participants will enjoy learning more about this artist and seeing the range of her work during the presentation.”

Curator Sarah Boehme commented, “The Drawing Experience exhibition gives the Stark Museum of Art the opportunity to revive the art of Ila McAfee. We invite lifelong learners to join us as we highlight her approach to drawing, especially as featured in a popular art instruction manual. Our slide talk will explore how this female artist developed a career, including a local connection, her paintings of Lutcher Stark’s longhorn cattle.”

Following the Lunch & Look, participants are encouraged to explore the galleries and visit The Drawing Experience to see McAfee’s work in person.
