Dorothy Theresa Prosperie, 97, Bridge City

Dorothy Theresa Prosperie, 97, of Bridge City and formerly of Port Arthur passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2020, at her residence in Bridge City surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born on May 6, 1923, in St. James Parish, Louisiana to Marie Olympe Chauvin Hotard and Sidney Joseph Hotard, Sr. She had lived in Port Arthur for over sixty years and in Bridge City for the past twelve years. Dorothy was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur and was a wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She loved to cook and was big on hospitality for her family and friends. Dorothy really enjoyed family events and loved her family more than life itself. She loved her Catholic faith and prayed as much as she could and really enjoyed going to church. Survivors include her sons, Wayne Prosperie and his wife Kathie of Lumberton, Frank Dale Prosperie and his wife Ginger of Port Arthur and Kenneth Prosperie and his wife Peggy of Bridge City; daughters, Elaine Romero of Port Neches and Kathryn T. Smith of Arizona; sister, Rita Prosperie; twenty-eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, S.J. Hotard, II, J.P. Hotard, Joe Hotard and Leo Hotard; sisters, Marie Labatut and Sister Mary John Hotard; grandson, Kelly Romero and her husband, Francis Joseph Prosperie who passed away on July 21, 2002. A Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur with a visitation to follow from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2020, at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church with Entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur. Due to COVID-19 the funeral home and church require all family and friends who attend services wear a mask and practice social distancing during all services and the visitation at the church and the cemetery as well. Serving as Pallbearers will be Steven Romero, Kenneth Prosperie, Jr., Wayne Prosperie, Jr., Adam Prosperie, Jeremy Cooper and Daniel Brantley. Honorary Pallbearer will be Kevin Romero. In lieu of flowers “Memorial Contributions” can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America at 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY, 10001.
