WEST ORANGE-STARK over HAMSHIRE-FANNETT—The Mustangs are fresh off a very impressive 70-0 blowout over former state champion Newton and are ready to open District 11-4A-II play at Hamshire-Fannett Friday night. The Longhorns also begin league competition on a winning note, nipping Splendora 34-30 last week. The ‘Stangs might have changed the name of their defense, but it still puts those zeroes on scoreboard under any name.

LITTLE CYPRESS-MAURICEVILLE over HOUSTON KINKAID—The Battlin’ Bears nearly spoiled Woodville’s homecoming last Friday night as they were driving for the tying touchdown late in the game only to suffer an interception by the talented Eagles, who edged out a 14-6 win. The Bears hit the road for Houston the take on Kinkaid and hopefully will even their record at 1-1 before opening district 10-4A-I competition in two weeks.

SILSBEE over ORANGEFIELD—The Bobcats were rewarded for moving up to Class 4A with a murderous district schedule that includes state-ranked Silsbee Tigers up in the Piney Woods. The ‘Cats handily disposed of long-time nemesis Buna 34-0 while the Tigers were throttled by former state champion Pleasant Grove 46-14. This game will be closer than most people think.

JASPER over VIDOR—This game will be Vidor’s final one before district play begins in two weeks. The Bulldogs are tough at home but they had better play mistake-free because the Pirate’s ground game could make it difficult to catch up if Jasper gives up some early scores.
