Our last high school track and field newsletter was sent from a completely different world than this one. We were starting to prepare for spring breaks and district meets. Then the Covid19 life began – a life unlike any previous existence.

There went the abrupt halt of track season and it never returned. Now we hopefully begin with a new one. Plenty of dreams – team and individual – were shattered and or delayed to this year.

So we have a different world and it’s going to require the assistance of many sources for us to be able to accurately present results and area leaders on any sporadic basis. That’s why I list my e-mail address in bold letters at the top of this cover page.

My life has changed even more than due to the Covid. My wife Donna receives kidney dialysis treatments each week. Those commitments to help are extensive because her vision also is real limited. It’s going to prevent my attendance at some 2021 meets for sure, especially any out of

the area. When I can make it to local meets, you know that I will.

Our area’s outdoor prep season starts this weekend for just a handful of teams. Barbers Hill and Dayton are going to Huffman for the Lake Houston Relays on Friday while Port Arthur Memorial makes its annual journey to the Wolverine Winter Relays hosted by Clear Brook at Webster’s

Challenger Stadium near NASA. Rain is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday though.

Our local season waits to Feb. 12 for its traditional start, the Bulldog Relays in Nederland. The field tentatively includes Nederland, PN-G, West Brook, United, Port Arthur Memorial, Dayton, Barbers Hill and Crosby. The first set of field events are scheduled to begin at noon in Bulldog

Stadium. Running finals follow at 3 p.m….. Remember, keep in touch.
