WEST ORANGE-STARK over NEDERLAND—This season opener usually pits the Mustang against the toughest team they will meet during the regular season in the Bulldogs and this year doesn’t look any different. The ‘Stangs manage to pull out wins in this rivalry most of the time and they should do it again Friday night.
LITTLE CYPRESS-MAURICEVILLE over HAMSHIRE-FANNETT—The Battlin’ Bears looked really good in their final scrimmage last week against Bridge City and need to pick up where they left off. However, the Longhorns play well at home and Friday night should be no different, so the Bears must bring their “A” game.
BRIDGE CITY over BUNA—The Cardinals looked pretty raw in their scrimmage last week against cross-county rival LC-M and should have a much more solid effort Friday night on the Cougars’ home field.
ORANGEFIELD over ANAHUAC—The Bobcats are always ready to put out their usual 100 per cent effort once the bell rings to start the regular season and have the home field advantage Friday night against the visiting Panthers.
VIDOR over SILSBEE—This match-up has been a grueling contest for both teams and usually tells a lot about how the rest of the season may go. Although this game is at Pirate Stadium, it doesn’t always mean the home team will come out on top. But it should happen Friday night.
DEWEYVILLE over WEST HARDIN—Don’t know much about either team but the Pirates have a couple of real talented skill people coming back with at least a year’s experience and that should carry them to their first victory Friday night.
HIGH SCHOOL—Beaumont West Brook over Beaumont United, Port Arthur Memorial over Lancaster, Port Neches-Groves over Jasper, Houston Waltrip over Lumberton, Coldspring over Hardin-Jefferson, Huffman over Liberty, East Chambers over Rusk, Hemphill over Kirbyville, Hardin over Kountze, Newton over Woodville, Evadale over Beaumont Kelly.
COLLEGE—Nebraska over Illinois, Fresno State over UConn, UCLA over Hawaii, New Mexico State over UTEP, Utah State over Southern Utah.
